On the subreddit ‘r/delhi’, a Delhi woman shared how a small act of kindness by an Uber driver made her feel safe during a late-night ride. In the post, she mentions that she was out with colleagues after work and booked a cab home around 10:30 PM. However, after getting into the taxi, she realised she had mistakenly entered her office address instead of her home address — which was in the opposite direction.

“I immediately asked the driver to stop and shared what had happened, and asked if I could change the address, and if it would be okay with him. He said, “No ma’am, I cannot leave you at your changed address as it is opposite to where he wanted to go.” Disappointed and a little bit panicked, I said that I’ll cancel the ride here and then book another one. Panicked because it was in the middle of the main road, which was not well lit and kind of spooky. It felt unsafe,” she shares in the post.

Seeing the time and how it was drizzling slightly, the Uber driver asked the Delhi woman to book another cab and wait inside his cab till the new one arrives. “Aise raat mai road pe kaha aap akele khade rahoge. Accha nhi lagta aise” My heart felt instantly happy and it gave me a sense of safety,” the woman added.

The driver then made sure she safely sat in the new cab and even apologised to her for not being able to drop her home as he was feeling a little unwell. “The whole time till I reached home and even now I think about how a small gesture can make somebody safe and secure in odd situations,” the woman shared.

“This happened to me when i came to delhi for the first time my train was late reached at 1 AM since it was winters the station was full as well so i booked a cab and was constantly on call with my boyfriend but when my drop off location came he didn’t let me get out of the car till the moment someone came down to pick me up as my place was across the road he made sure i went in before leaving. I wanted to give him extra money, but he refused and said: itna to farz hai,” one of the netizens shared.

Another shared, “As a woman living alone in Delhi, I must say that I too have had mostly nice experiences with Uber drivers (I know, bare minimum).”

“This was such a heartwarming read. Sometimes it’s not the big things, just small moments of basic humanity that stay with you. Glad he looked out for you, honestly, drivers like him deserve all the good things. Had a similar moment once, and it really reminds you that kindness still exists out there,” one of the comments read.
