Why Is Albert Hall Museum In Jaipur Shutting For 21 Months?

The Albert Hall Museum, located in Jaipur, is the oldest state museum in Rajasthan. But if you are planning a visit there, you need to know that the museum may remain closed for around 21 months to undergo a major ₹27.45 crore renovation and upgrades. Here’s what we know.

Albert Hall Museum In Jaipur To Undergo Major Renovation

Albert Hall Museum in Jaipur, situated in Ram Niwas Garden, was considered one of the best 19th-century museums for the variety of its collections. The museum has a rich collection of artefacts, including paintings, jewellery, carpets, ivory and works in crystal. Not just that, but this iconic museum also includes coins from the Gupta, Kushan, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal and British periods, which attract a lot of tourists.

There is also an Egyptian Mummy inside the museum, which usually draws the biggest crowd. It is displayed in a decorated glass case with information about Egyptian burial practices. According to The Times of India, the museum may be shut to visitors for 21 months to undergo major upgrades and renovation work.

The estimated cost of the revamp is set at ₹27.45 crore and aims to upgrade the museum to international standards. The work includes civil repairs, plumbing, lighting and other development works. Moreover, the renovation is also expected to involve upgrades across the heritage building, which houses paintings, sculptures, pottery, carpets and many other important historical objects.

QR Codes To Be Installed Across 18 Galleries

According to Telegraph India, QR codes will be installed in all 18 galleries present in the Albert Hall Museum of Jaipur. Visitors will be able to easily scan the codes to access information about Rajasthan’s history, art, culture, food, attire, jewellery and folk traditions. Authorities are also planning to install an LED screen at the reception. This screen will provide visitors with information about the museum’s history.

On a normal day, the museum receives around 1,500-2,000 visitors. But during the tourist season, the number significantly rises to around 8,000 visitors per day. With the new upgrades planned, the museum is definitely on the way to attracting more visitors in the future. The date of the museum’s closure to the public is currently being decided.
