Aru Ressha, Japan’s Luxurious Sweet Train
Far from an ordinary train ride, it is a revival of 1906 luxury passenger training that has never seen the light of day, until now. Designed with a golden exterior, plush interiors anda curated menu by the world-renowned Chef Yoshihiro, Narisawa, Aru Ressha is an experience for everyone who loves fine dining, scenic, train, journeys, and impeccable hospitality.
Aru Ressha’s origins date back to 1906 when Kyushu Railway commissioned a luxury passenger train from JG Company in the USA. Unfortunately, the railway was nationalised before this train could be used. Fast-forward to 2015, when Eiji Mitooka, the legendary designer behind Japan’s famous Seven Stars in Kyushu luxury train, brought this forgotten dream back to life.
Inspired by the scale models of railway enthusiast, Novo Taro Hara, the Aru Ressha was reborn as a train that brings together the past and the present. One look at this golden train is enough to mesmerise you. With gold and black hues combined with intricate arabesque patterns, the train looks like a moving palace. As the train travels through Kyushu’s landscapes, the golden carriages shine under the sunlight and look like pieces of art against the beautiful backdrop of nature.
The train is divided into two parts: Car No. 1 and Car No. 2. Car No. 1 features an open seating arrangement with two-seat and four-seat configurations. The carriage has warm tones that give it an intimate and cosy feel. Car No. 2 is for you if you prefer privacy. This one has compartments for two with wooden sliding doors and shutters that turn it into a personal sanctuary. Richly decorated, even the bathrooms on the train are a sight to behold.
