Jewar: Noida International Airport Operations Delayed! Flights To Start In Dec Instead Of Sept; Here’s Why

The Noida International Airport or NIA will begin flight operations in December. If reports are to go by, certain issues with regards to environmental clearances are delaying the completion of the airport which is going to be the largest in the country. However, officials are already working to resolve these issues. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about the reason behind this delay.

Noida International Airport Flight Operations To Begin In December

According to an article which was recently published by The Indian Express or the IE, this particular airport will begin flight operations by the end of this year in December. Earlier, it was estimated that the airport would commence flight operations by September.

However, its construction has faced certain challenges and the date has been pushed to December. The airport is also undergoing an expansion which will make it the largest airport in this country. As per the CEO of the Noida International Airport Limited or NIAL, Arun Vir Singh, the operations will begin on December 29, 2024.

As per his statement cited in the IE article, four domestic flights will be operational by this date with more flying out regularly after that. Located just 15 kilometres from the Dhanauri wetland site, the airport is constructed by the Yamuna International Airport Pvt. Ltd. or the YIAPL. It is a subsidiary of and owned by the Zurich International Airport AG.

What Is The Reason Behind This Delay Of The Airport?

Environmental clearance issues are one of the reasons for the delay. As many as 111 animals are to be translocated from the regions that will soon be a part of the airport.

These animals include blackbucks and peafowls as well as deer. Dhanauri wetland is an eco-sensitive zone. However, it has not yet been declared as a Ramsar site.
