J&K: Dachigam National Park Is The Only Place In India To Spot Endangered Kashmir Stag AKA Hanguls   

The splendor of Kashmir is simply unmatched, and it can make anyone fall in love with it. Not only does its beautiful beauty attract visitors from across the globe, but it also attracts a variety of birds and animals. Even the central European red deer finds another of its type, called the Hangul or Kashmir stag, prowling the verdant fields of Kashmir in the Dachigam National Park. 

Dachigam National Park

Visit Dachigam National Park, which is 22 miles from the charming city of Srinagar. Even though the magnificent Hangul is still the park’s major draw, there are many unexpected natural wonders to be discovered, such as the flowing Dagwan River that winds through the forest. The park was improved and made a national park in 1981.

Officials have made significant efforts in the hopes that the endangered Hangul will multiply because it is the only national park in India where it is possible to see them. 

Furthermore, the most recent census carried out inside its boundaries indicates that these initiatives have been successful. The records show a notable shift in the correct direction, even though official numbers are still pending. 

There are so many discoveries throughout the park. Dachigam’s name alludes to one of them: its past. Dachigam (meaning “ten villages”) was founded in 1910. Before, it was a collection of villages that were removed to create a game preserve and a catchment region for Jammu and Kashmir’s former Maharaja.

Rich Flora And Fauna

Thousands of trees were planted under his patronage, and today the forest’s flora includes 20 types of shrubs, over 50 species of trees, and nearly 500 species of herbs. 

In addition to vast expanses of greenery, the national park offers an excellent representation of the abundant fauna in the area, ranging from the subdued musk deer to the fierce leopard, Himalayan black bear, and yellow-throated marten. 

Dachigam National Park is a great spot to take pictures if you are an avid bird watcher. Stunning photos of Himalayan monals, Kashmir flycatchers, Himalayan rubythroats, and many other unique birds can be added to your collection.

A diverse range of flora and fauna may be found there, including numerous endangered animal species, including musk deer, ibex, and Himalayan black bears. Finding a snow leopard in the wild is an amazing experience, as they are among the world’s most elusive and uncommon creatures. (As per Outlook Traveller)

Stunning Year-Round

Although Dachigam National Park is stunning year-round, May through September is the finest time to visit when the entire landscape is blanketed in blue poppy blooms. A great time to visit the park is also during Hangul’s autumn rutting season. With elevations ranging from 5,500 feet to 14,000 feet, the park offers unparalleled sunset views.  

In order to enter Dachigam National Park, you must apply online for authorization. Bookings are limited to one per day. There must be a maximum of 15 people in each group. Every member of the group must present identification. A group of students at schools and colleges can have no more than 80 people.
