Jogeshwari Gets 1st Inclusive Garden In Mumbai

This particular garden is all set to be inaugurated tomorrow by Mangal Prabhat Lodha who is the Suburban Guardian Minister. It is located inside the very famous Matoshree Meenatai Thakre Garden in the Jogeshwari neighbourhood of the financial capital of the country. It is also popularly known as Shilpagram and is a popular recreational space in the neighbourhood.

The project was a public-private partnership or a PPP and a joint initiative of the Prayas Trust by L&T and Project Mumbai, an NGO. The initiative converted a part of the garden into a space that is friendly for the physically challenged as well as able-bodied people. In addition to the play area, accessible ramps, railings, braille signposts, special flooring and even special swings have been installed.

It is important to note that this is not the first recreational space for the differently abled. There are a couple of gardens in Mumbai near Byculla and Bandra that are solely dedicated to the physically challenged. However, according to an article recently published by The Indian Express, those gardens are strictly secluded for them Shilpagram will be the first garden in the city which will have a common play area for all.
