Journalist Slams Air India For Serving ‘Mysore Paneer Curry’ As Speciality From Mysore; Says City Has More Dishes To Offer

Air India is currently facing a tirade of backlash. From rude staff to faulty seats to unsatisfactory food to numerous flight delays and cancellations, the airline to a large extent is holding tight despite floating in a sea of criticism. But the latest may come as a surprise, as it has to do with their in-flight menu. ANI journalist and podcaster Smita Prakash slammed Air India for serving paneer curry as a speciality from Mysore. Here’s more to it.

Journalist Suggests Air India Serve Authentic Dishes From Mysore

Sharing a picture of Air India’s in-flight menu on X (formerly Twitter), Smita highlighted the “Mysore Paneer Curry”. The dish is described as rich and spicy paneer curry with flavours from Mysore. Accompaniments include tangy lemon rice and nutritious Keerai Kuttu, a combination of tempered lentils and spinach. In her caption, she writes, “Air India yaar, please! Mysore has so much to offer, paneer is NOT one of them.”

The journalist with roots in Karnataka was disappointed that Mysore Paneer Curry was being passed off as a speciality from Mysore. She stated that Mysore had many local dishes to offer and “paneer” wasn’t one of them. Right above Paneer, on the in-flight menu is Meen Moilee, a seafood preparation from Kerala cooked in coconut milk. If there was a delicacy from Kerala on the menu, then why not one from Mysore?

Air India Responds

Smita’s post garnered 24.7k views, 821 likes and 79 comments. An X user joked about a Punjabi chef from Mysore coming up with the cottage cheese dish. Others commented that they’d never heard of Mysore Paneer Curry before. Some even wondered why Keerai Kutu, a dish from Tamil Nadu made it to a meal which is supposedly from Mysore.

Air India responded to her post, appreciating her input and ensuring it reaches their relevant teams. The official handle of the airline said they would definitely take her thoughts into account and rightly reflect the richness Mysore has to offer. Air India promised to enhance the travel experience by offering authentic food choices.

Well, some of the dishes from Mysore we’d recommend to the airline are: Mysore Pak, Bisi Bele Baath, Mysore Bonda, Shavige Baath, Mysore Masala Dosa and Ragi Mudde. We wonder what Smita Prakash and other foodies think of our suggestions!
