Find A Serene Swimming Oasis In London

Nestled just a stone’s throw from the city, a serene haven for swimmers awaits: Merchant Taylors’ Lake. Just beyond the London boundary into Hertfordshire, there’s a lesser-known outdoor swimming place that’s still marked on the London Underground map. It’s only a ten-minute’s walk from a Tube station, and what you would not expect is that it’s located in a school but is available to everyone. Merchant Taylors’ School, the location of Merchant Taylors’ Lake, is a short stroll from Moor Park station on the Metropolitan line. Strictly for boys, the school is located in Moor Park. Fortunately, swimming in the school’s lake doesn’t cost so much.

The lake is surrounded by lush greenery, creating an oasis that feels worlds away from the urban sprawl of London. The tranquil setting is perfect for those looking to immerse themselves in nature, with the gentle lapping of the water providing a soothing soundtrack to a leisurely swim. Not only are the calm waters great for swimming, but a variety of birds, including herons, like to visit and relax by the pond. The water safety staff, who accompany you on the lake in their kayaks, is constantly watching over you as you swim.
