On the recommendation of the Fare Fixation Committee, Bengaluru Metro has hiked its fares by almost 50%. The revised fare structure became effective on February 9, 2025. BMRCL took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce this fare hike in the city. As per the post, BMRCL introduced separate tariffs for peak and non-peak hours, just like cab-hailing platforms Ola and Uber.

As per Deccan Herald, while the average net hike after accounting for discounts is about 45-46%, due to the removal of the 5% discount on QR code tickets, the fares on some routes of Bengaluru Metro have increased by as much as 80%. Netizens have shown their displeasure with this fare surge and mentioned that taking personal vehicles and AC buses around the city is more cost-effective than taking the Bengaluru Metro now.
