Kajol Has Always Been A Mythology Buff; This Is The One Thing She Loves About Everything She Has Read

Our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met Kajol for the third time on this episode of Sunday Brunch. The duo sat at Oh! Calcutta in Mumbai, where our very own Simran from DDLJ opened up about her films, life, kids and more. Kajol’s recent release was a mythological horror film, Maa, and she discussed her love for mythological stories. She is also an avid reader and can complete reading a whole book in a day. Over some Bengali dishes, Kajol shared the one thing she loves from the stories she reads. Read on to know more about it.

Kajol’s Beloved Story Is…

Kajol is a great mythology buff and has read every bit of Amar Chitra Katha. Even if she doesn’t remember every king, queen and sadhu, she still remembers most of it. Kajol has been a great devotee of Goddess Durga since she was a year old, and we have all seen her love and devotion during Durga Puja. One thing that stuck in her mind after reading all the mythology stories is of Maa Kali. She said, “In all of our mythology, we always claim with both Shiva and Shakti, but the tag of creation is always from Maa.”

She loves the fact that when nothing else works and all options are gone, the one you can always turn to is Maa. Kajol loves the idea that when all other options have failed, she is the ultimate source of strength. She also admires how every god believed that the one divine power they could turn to and pray to was Maa Kali.

Story Of Maa Kali & Raktbeej

While talking about her film, Kajol shared an age-old tale of Maa Kali and Raktbeej. Raktbeej was a demon who had received a boon that every time a drop of his blood touched the ground, a new Raktbeej would be born. Hence, he formed a massive army, and no one knew how to defeat him. That’s when Maa Kali stepped in.

After killing them, she realised that the more she struck them down, the more they multiplied, as every drop of blood that hit the ground gave rise to another demon. That’s when Maa Kali had an idea. She decided to drink all of their blood to prevent it from falling to the ground, thereby stopping them from multiplying.

Kajol said, “So, she was smart and intelligent, just like every woman everywhere.” She also advised all mothers to show their emotions and not always wear a smile, so that people understand that they are humans and have feelings too.

Did you know Kajol never asks God for anything? She simply thanks him for everything. Want to know the reason behind it? Watch the full episode on the Curly Tales YouTube channel.
