The ‘Singham’ of the South Indian film industry, actor Suriya joined our editor-in-chief, Kamiya Jani for this episode of Sunday Brunch. We went to Imlee by Curly Tales and Neeti Goel in Bandra to converse about his successful career, lovely family, food preferences, and more. As someone who is a true Mumbaikar, Kamiya wasn’t going to miss a chance to feed Suriya good Mumbaiya street food and teach him the ways of a Mumbaikar.
Kamiya Jani Turns Suriya Into A Proper Mumbaikar
Tamil actor Suriya was at our restaurant in Bandra to try all the delish street food of Mumbai. Starting from misal pav to pav bhaji, and pani puri to vada pav, we ate it all. Kamiya took it up a notch when she went behind the pani puri counter to serve him some of this sweet and spicy street food.
Suriya requested Kamiya to make pani puri “60% sweet, 40% spicy” as the actor is fond of sweet flavours rather than spicy. While she made the puris, the ‘Kanguva’ actor said that he had only eaten the aloo with meethi chutney. So, the classic Mumbaiya pani puri was a first for him!
The verdict for our pani puri? Well, it was, as the actor said, “Perfect!” He liked it so much that he was up for some more. That too with a bit more spice!

When It Comes To Pani Puri, Never Forget About This!
Suriya couldn’t get enough of this street food. Kamiya educated him about the unsaid rule of sukha puri after gobbling pani puri. She said, “Whenever you eat pani puri in Mumbai, you should never forget about sukha puri. It’s a complimentary puri! With one plate of pani puri, you get one sukha puri free! So, even if you don’t want to eat, you must ask for it.”
Curly Tales is gradually turning the superstar into a proper Mumbaikar! We had a delectable feast of Mumbai street food and even taught him local slang; watch the entire episode linked above.
