Imagine waking up in a small village surrounded by mountains, clouds, wind, and a river, just like the scenery you used to draw in your childhood. The only difference is that this village has a population of just 75 people. Curly Tales’s Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani had the opportunity to witness the stunning landscapes of Kaho in Arunachal Pradesh. Kamiya visited India’s first village in the depths of the state. This hidden gem is situated 10 km from Tibet and is the easternmost village of India.
A Glimpse Into Arunachal Pradesh’s Beauty, Kaho!
Kaho in Kibithu is a remote village situated on the bank of the river Lohit, a tributary to the Brahmaputra River. Apart from being the first village in India, another interesting part of Kaho is that it’s conveniently located just 10 minutes away from the India-China Line of Actual Control in the Anjaw district, one of 11 districts with a border with China.
Kaho is an unexplored tourist destination where the 17 families of the Meyor tribe live, preserving their rich history, culture, and connection to nature. After the 1962 Sino-Indian War, some Meyor families remained on the China side of the border.
The village is located close to the China-India border, and there is a large deployment of security forces on its periphery. People are therefore prevented from wandering beyond Kaho village.
Apart from the nature surrounding Kaho, the beauty of Kaho is in its simplicity and joyful way of living. There are only 17 houses in the village for families, while the community is majorly involved in agriculture. This basic, simple lifestyle is missing from the mainland hustle-bustle. The village offers a unique escape from the internet and mobile phones, as it lacks network connectivity.
