With temperatures in Bengaluru soaring to 33 to 34° C, Karnataka is facing a heatwave right now. The state has been experiencing high temperatures since February that are several degrees higher than usual around this time of year. This early onset of summer has led the Karnataka Health and Family Welfare Department to issue several heatwave advisories for the people. Read on to learn more about them.
“Stay Hydrated & Indoors,” Says Karnataka Health Department
The Karnataka Health Department has issued a public heatwave advisory in the state. The authorities have requested people to stay hydrated and stay indoors as much as possible. They have asked people to take oral rehydration solutions (ORS) and consume lemon water, buttermilk, or lassi. They also advised taking fruit juices with some salt and consuming seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content.
The advisory further suggests wearing light-coloured and loose cotton garments, airy footwear, and keeping the heads covered to avoid direct sunlight. The health department also asked people to stay indoors in well-ventilated and cool places and suggested limiting daytime outdoor activities for the time being.
According to the advisory, a list of vulnerable populations has been mentioned, besides the general one who needs to be extra careful during the heatwave. This list includes “infants, young children, pregnant women, people who work outdoors, and people with mental and physical illnesses.” People with heart disease or high blood pressure, and people coming from cooler climates are also advised to be extra careful in the state right now.

More Heatwaves To Be Experiences Throughout The Country
According to the India Meteorological Department, this summer will be warmer than usual in India – all thanks to the El Nino phenomenon. This condition is likely to persist till May. They further predicted more heatwaves in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and the north interior of Karnataka in the upcoming days. This will further continue in Maharashtra and Odisha. In some relief for Northern states, heatwave conditions are not expected in North and Central India in March.
