Did You Know Kerala Will Soon Launch A Government-Owned Brandy? All About ‘Malabar Mystery’!

Kerala is leaving no chance to experiment with their alcoholic beverages. After the success of the ‘Jawan’ brand rum, the government is all set to launch a brandy in the market. The production for the same is all set to begin on February 21. Read on to know more about the development.

Kerala Government To Launch Malabar Mystery Brandy

According to the Deccan Herald, the production of the brandy will begin at the state government agency, Malabar Distilleries, in Palakkad, on February 21. The product is expected to reach the market a few days after production.

The government will name the brandy ‘Malabar Mystery’. As per the portal, the name was a suspense for quite some time, as the brandy was caught up in a legal issue following complaints of government agencies promoting alcohol.

After Jawan rum was introduced by the state government, the Travancore Sugars and Chemicals agency became quite popular, especially among consumers preferring affordable brands. The rum is being sold for ₹650 per litre and is known for its superior quality.

All You Need To Know About The New Brandy

Hence, the consumers and retailers have high hopes that the upcoming brandy being brought by the government will also be an affordable and good-quality brand. Official sources tell Deccan Herald that a fully automated production unit with a daily production capacity of 13,500 cases has been set up. The production will begin with half-litre bottles, and in due time, full and one-litre bottles will be made available.

Amid criticism for promoting liquors and going against its stated policy of reducing liquor consumption, the state government is going ahead with the launch of the brandy, as taxes from liquor are around 250%, which is a key revenue source for the government.

The government is justifying the decision to bring out new brandy, stating that a defunct government agency is being revived and around 250 job opportunities are being introduced.

The Malabar distilleries were started as the Chittor Cooperative Sugar Factory in 1952 and are situated on 113 acres of land at Menonpara in Palakkad, close to the Tamil Nadu border.
