Kerala is one of the most serene holiday destinations in India. From stunning beaches and backwaters to breathtaking hill stations, the state has it all. However, the long travel time within the state often makes it difficult for travellers to experience it all in one trip. Keeping all this in mind, Kerala has proposed helicopter services to connect popular tourist spots in the state and here’s all about it.
Kerala May Soon Get Helicopter Services To Improve Connectivity
According to The New Indian Express, Kerala may soon introduce helicopter services to connect key tourist places in the state. The state government hopes to provide a regular, safe, and convenient aerial transport system that will help boost tourism and improve connectivity between popular tourist destinations.
As per reports, Kerala Tourism plans to partner with certified helicopter service providers and aggregators to connect destinations like Kochi, Thekkady, Munnar, Kumarakom, Vagamon, and Bekal. This initiative aligns with its broader strategy to position Kerala as a premium tourist destination. By connecting serene beaches to stunning hill stations via helicopter services, Kerala will make diverse travel experiences accessible within a single day.
Besides boosting tourism, the introduction of helicopter services in Kerala will also serve emergency, medical, and disaster management needs in the state. It is to be noted that back in December 2023, Kerala launched a heli-tourism initiative as well. However, because of the forest department’s restrictions and the absence of a clear policy, the initiative failed to gain momentum. Taking lessons from the previous attempt, the state formulated a comprehensive policy, and it was approved by the cabinet in December 2024.

All You Need To Know About This Proposed Service
Understanding how connectivity is a major concern for people travelling to Kerala, the state’s tourism board has proposed the reintroduction of helicopter services. They highlighted how people have to spend four-six hours on the road while trying to commute from one popular tourist place to another. With the introduction of the new helicopter service, tourists will be able to minimise intra-state commute time to just an hour or so. According to reports, the proposed price for the service is ₹5,000 or so per person. More details about this are awaited.
