A traditional British coronation chicken was cooked in 1953 when Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne. This special dish included an India-inspired curry base. Today, coronation chicken is still a popular dish in the UK, and it is often served in sandwiches, as a salad, or as a filling for jacket potatoes. Now, there’s a new coronation quiche to mark the coronation of King Charles III’s.

The coronation quiche is a unique and flavorful dish that pays homage to the traditional British coronation chicken dish. It is a delicious twist on the classic quiche recipe. It’s a vegetarian quiche layered with cheddar cheese, spinach and tarragon. The idea of a coronation dish is that it should be easy to recreate at home, comforting enough for indoor dining as well as travel and even for outdoor events and picnics.
The King and Camilla, the Queen Consort, have personally chosen this dish that is expected to be the centrepiece for many attending the royal event. The dish is said to make its debut at the ‘Big Lunch’ which will be enjoyed by the royal families coming to be part of this historical event. The United Kingdom is leaving no stone unturned to make the coronation ceremony of King Charles III a grand affair. The mega event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 6, at Westminster Abbey in London.
The Royal Family’s website also has a detailed recipe with ingredients and a preparation process that involves flour, salt and shortcrust pastry. Broad beans, fresh tarragon, and spinach are also added to enhance the delicate flavour of the dish. It can be served hot or cold, along with boiled potatoes and a green salad.
A Divided Reaction
While many royal fans were quick to share their interest in making the egg-based dish themselves, several others were left stunned by the choice of the dish, taking to social media to air their thoughts. Others slammed the royal family for choosing a quiche as the coronation’s official dish when there is currently an egg shortage that is affecting both the US and the UK.
The “coronation quiche” looks absolutely grim, so I suppose it’s a fitting choice.
