All ready to become the world’s largest urban park by 2025, this is going to cover a massive area of 16.6 km². The largest of its kind in the world, the flagship initiative by the Saudi Vision 2030, it’s going to expand the city’s green spaces and also enhance the quality of life.

At this point, it’s worth mentioning that King Salman Park is coming up on the ground of the former Riyadh Airways. This park is going to be seven times the size of London’s Hyde Park and even five times the size of New York’s Central Park. A monumental addition to the city’s landscape, the park is going to offer a wide variety of sports, recreational activities, biodiversity, and cultural activities. Home to a wealth of plant and animal life, more than 11.6 km² of the site will be dedicated to green space.

As a result, 1 million trees are going to be planted across the vast area, which will contribute significantly towards the increase of the region’s vegetation cover. As it happens, the park’s design also includes a vertical garden, an Islamic-style garden, and several other types of spaces that will house numerous birds, butterflies, and other species. It’s not only going to create a healthier and more vibrant ecosystem but also has its aesthetic appeal.

Coming to the valley, this is going to cover an area of over 800,000 m² and will have several bodies of water that have been designed to support aquatic life. Offering a great place for migratory birds to rest, this will include natural elements that are going to enhance the biodiversity. There is also going to be a 7.2 km pedestrian walk away That will offer a serene environment for walking and exercise.

So, sustainability being the key focus of the park’s development, the extensive green spaces and tree-planting efforts are bound to mitigate the urban heat effect. As a result, the overall climate of Riyadh is also expected to improve. Not to mention, the strategic location of the park links it to several main roads and public transportation systems.
