Kiren Rijiju & Kangana Ranaut Savoured A Traditional Himachali Spread At Key Monastery; Here’s What They Ate

When actress and politician Kangana Ranaut met our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani last, she wholeheartedly spoke about her love for Himachali food. The Himachali tucked into Siddhu, a famous bread, Mittha, Kale Chane Ki Mahni and more. Now turned restaurateur as well, Kangana Ranaut recently introduced politician Kiren Rijiju to a Himachali spread during their recent visit to Key Monastery in Spiti Valley.

Kiren Rijiju & Kangana Ranaut Enjoy Himachali Spread Of Tsampa, Yak Cheese & More

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju recently visited Spiti Valley in Himachal Pradesh. The politician made his way to Key Monastery. With Himachali MP Kangana Ranaut, Kiren Rijiju tucked into a traditional feast. The monastery is also known as ‘Key Gompa’. The largest monastery in Spiti, Key Monastery, was once the home of the ancient Kadampa lineage. Today, it’s believed to be the seat of the Lochen Tulkus lineage.

With The Mountain Story restaurant owner, Kangana Ranaut, Kiren Rijiju enjoyed a hearty meal of Himachali delicacies. On the menu were tsampa, yak cheese, fresh fruits, tea and cookies. We also spotted a plate of bhaturu, which is a traditional Himachali pillowy bread often eaten with ghee. It reflects the prevalent sourdough culture of Malera.
Yak cheese is a delicacy in the Himalayan region as it’s believed to keep one warm for a long time. The high nutritional value of the dairy product nudges locals to use it in traditional medicine as well. It’s known to aid in issues like high blood pressure, fatigue and stomach concerns. Tsampa is a Tibetan staple that’s made with roasted barley flour. The highly nutritious bread is often paired with tea and other dishes.

Breakfast At An Altitude Of 13,668 Feet

In a reel shared by Kiren Rijiju, the politician is seen tucked into his warm meal while speaking about the importance of the food put in front of him. The local Himachali dishes help one stay satiated for long, observes Rijiju. Nestled at an altitude of 13,668 feet, the Key Monastery is a major Buddhist spiritual hub. Two monks kindly pour hot tea for Rijiju and serve him with warmth. Along with Kangana Ranaut, he was also joined by Bollywood singer Mohit Chauhan.
