The Kochi Port Authority is spearheading the initiative, utilising approximately 150 acres of land near the BOT Bridge (Alexander Parambithara Bridge to Old Bridge) and National Highway 966B. Construction on the first phase, spanning 15 acres, is already underway. This initial stage boasts plans for a shopping mall by the HiLITE Group, promising a haven for retail therapy.

But the vision extends far beyond just one shopping destination. The project encompasses a diverse mix of commercial establishments, catering to a wide range of tastes. Imagine catching the latest blockbuster at a multiplex, then indulging in a scoop at a local ice cream parlour. International brands like Starbucks will also find a home here, alongside beloved local favourites. To realise this vision, the Kochi Port Authority has entered into long-term lease agreements (up to 30 years) with various developers.

The transformation is already attracting a wave of businesses. Clothing stores, cafes, and restaurants – both local and national – have begun setting up shop, adding a vibrant energy to the developing district. As the project progresses, this influx of establishments is expected to snowball, creating a thriving business ecosystem that will entice further investment.

This commercial renaissance is not just about economic growth. The development is strategically designed to complement the existing tourist attractions of Fort Kochi and Mattancherry, both located nearby in Ernakulam district. Kochi is already a popular destination for domestic and international tourists, and the new facilities on Willingdon Island are sure to become a major draw, further enriching the visitor experience.
