Kolkata Book Fair Now Has A Mascot
Taking to the X platform, Ronita (@rons1212) shared a glimpse of this year’s mascot.
Kolkatans’ love for art, history, culture, and celebrating traditions is unmatched. Kolkata continues its glorious celebrations of artistic influences splendidly every year. The city is making last-minute preparations for the 48th edition of the International Kolkata Book Fair. Ahead of the much-awaited Boimela, Publishers and Booksellers Guild announced the mascot in 2024.
Kolkata’s Boimela is set to showcase multiple new highlights this time and one of the most fascinating ones is the mascot. The idea was to introduce a unique concept. What better than an innovative idea of representing our culture uniquely? The mascot features pictures of two swans — a male and a female. For people unaware of swans’ significance, these birds are Goddess Saraswati’s vahana.
Bengalis worship the goddess of education and knowledge by keeping books beside her. Quite similarly, both the swans have been given a wonderful look like a bookworm. In a conversation with The Hindu, Publishers and Booksellers Guild’s president Tridib Chatterjee shared about the beautiful swans wearing spectacles and decked up with a pretty look of reading a book. These birds will be placed in multiple areas at the Boimela venue.
Another key update from the Book Fair is its Focal Theme Country for this year. Germany is set to be the Theme Country for the first time since the event’s inauguration.
More New Arrangements For The Boimela
The concerned departments and organisers are taking necessary steps to make the Book Fair the grandest one yet. For the first time in decades, the fair will be a complete open-air festival. In previous years, we saw temporary areas prepared for English-language publications. However, the landscape will not be the same in 2025.
This year, the organisers finalised to set up open-air areas instead of temporary hangars. This will help facilitate proper visibility as well.
