Kolkata Experiences Its Coldest Day This Year; Wakes Up To Second Coldest Day This Winter Season

Kolkatans, are you shivering in the cold? Even a couple of weeks ago, folks were complaining about not being able to experience the winter season completely as the temperature was warmer in comparison to other years. However, the weather changed in the past week and Kolkata is finally experiencing a chilly winter season. With the mercury taking a dip, the City of Joy recorded its coldest day in 2025.

Kolkata Recorded One Of Its Coldest Days Of This Winter Season

It has been around a week since the winter season is showing its chilly magic in the City of Joy. On January 10, Kolkata woke up to 13.2°C, making it the second coldest day of this season. In addition, the slight drop in temperature resulted in this year’s coldest day so far. According to a report by The Times of India, Kolkata reported 13.2°C for the third time this January.

Will the city experience similar weather conditions in the next few days? Will winter chills continue to shiver the city folks? According to the weather forecast by the Met Office, the temperature on Saturday will be similar to the last day. However, it will gradually start rising from Sunday. H R Biswas, head of RMC Kolkata’s weather forecast section, revealed that there are chances for the temperature to increase in the next three days. After a couple of warmer days, The mercury will likely plunge again and the weather will get colder in Kolkata. In fact, the temperature may drop below 12°C by the end of January 2025.

Weather Updates About Different Districts In West Bengal

The mercury dipped significantly in Bankura, Purulia, Darjeeling, Birbhum, East Burdwan, West Burdwan, and Jhargram. These districts in West Bengal have continued to wake up to shivering weather for the last few weeks. Many districts even recorded single-digit temperatures in the last few days of December 2024. In mid-December, Purulia recorded 7.5°C and was West Bengal’s coldest plains area.
