From locals to people living in nearby places to even other states, visitors rush from all around to witness the glitz and glamour of the City of Joy during the celebrations of Holly Jolly Christmas. Today is December 22 and if you step into the Park Street area during the evening, you will understand the hype and craze that I am talking about. It has been a few days since Park Street got lit up most glamorously and people are running there to enjoy the merriment and click loads of pictures and videos.

The grand celebrations of lighting up and decorating streets begin days before Christmas and continue till New Year. It is just like a week-long festival of lights in the chilly winter season. Visitors have already started exploring the streets, enjoying the nearby functions, visiting churches, gorging on local street food, having dinner at popular Park Street restaurants, and enjoying most of Christmas in Kolkata.
There are so many wonderful experiences to enjoy in Kolkata during this time of the year. Though Park Street is widely famous for Christmas, places such as Maidan and Bow Barracks also welcome many visitors for amazing celebrations. Kolkata Metro witnesses a massive spike in passenger footfall at this time of the year. And to control the rush, the metro railway has started strengthening security already.

Metro Railway Enhances Security Arrangements For The Festive Season

There is no public transportation facility better than the metro to take you to your venue. Park Street metro station is the closest to the decorated streets and the bustling areas of celebrations. If you decide to take a metro ride to reach your destination, get ready to face a humongous crowd. Some metro stations that witness the most crowds are Park Street, Dum Dum, Maidan, Rabindra Sadan, and Esplanade. Here are some steps taken by Kolkata Metro Railway to control the rush:
- North-South metro facilities will begin at 8:55 AM from Dum Dum to Dakshineswar on December 25, according to a report by The Statesman.
- The time to start the metro from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash, Dum Dum to Kavi Subhash, and Kavi Subhash to Dakshineswar is 9 AM on Christmas.
- There will be late-night North-South metro facilities available.
- The last metro on that day will run at 11 PM from Kavi Subhash to Dakshineswar. And the time will be 10:58 PM from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash.
- The last metro will operate at 11:10 PM from Dakshineswar to Kavi Subhash and from Dum Dum to Kavi Subhash.
- Metro Railway will position teams of the Railway Protection Force at the entry and exit gates of the crowded metro stations.
- There will be women officers and staff at Park Street for the women and children visitors.
- Special teams will be deployed at Esplanade, Park Street, and Maidan metro stations to control the mammoth rush.
- The teams will assist in controlling any unfortunate emergencies.
