West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Kolkata International Film Festival’s latest edition at Dhono Dhanyo Auditorium on December 4. During the glorious event’s inaugural ceremony, she requested filmmakers to utilise the local talent in West Bengal, collaborate with them for projects, and showcase this state’s beauty and diversity in upcoming movies.
The West Bengal government’s Information and Cultural Affairs Department organised the grand Kolkata International Film Festival. Starting on December 4, the event will continue till December 11, 2024, hosted in different venues and screens in Kolkata. Also, the event is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers’ Association.

The Kolkata International Film Festival’s first edition was hosted in 1995. The inspiration behind conducting something so vivacious and large-scale was Bengal’s legends such as Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, and world-famous filmmakers. This year, the iconic festival pays tribute to renowned director Tapan Sinha. It celebrates his birth centenary with an exhibition “Tapan Sinha: A Man of All Seasons.”
