According to a recent announcement, Kolkata Metro began an upgrade to its ticketing system from February 28. This will enable travellers to buy up to seven paper tickets with QR codes, in one transaction. The current system, in which only one ticket could be purchased at a time, has been greatly improved by this new modification. The change intends to make commuting quicker and more convenient for travellers, cut down on lengthy lines, and streamline the ticket purchasing procedure.
Benefits Of This Upgrade By The Kolkata Metro
In the past, ticket counters were frequently overcrowded and delayed by the restriction that only one QR ticket could be purchased per transaction. The worst times were during peak hours. It is anticipated that the new rule will reduce needless waiting and save passengers time by allowing them to buy many tickets at once. Regular commuters who require many tickets or those travelling in groups will especially benefit from this move.
With the exception of the Purple Line (Joka-Majerhat), the majority of metro lines will use the new ticketing system. The following routes will be affected: The Orange Line connecting New Garia to Ruby Crossing, the Blue Line connecting Dakshineswar to New Garia, and the Green Line connecting Howrah Maidan to Esplanade.
However, since the Purple Line is not covered by this update, users will still have to use the outdated system for the time being.
Modernisation Of The Metro
This upgrade is a component of Kolkata Metro’s continuous endeavours to increase the efficiency and convenience of its passengers. In order to ease traffic at ticket kiosks and give commuters a more seamless experience, the metro has taken this step. It is anticipated that the modification will result in more efficient and time-effective everyday metro commuting.
The first metro rail system in India, Kolkata Metro, began operations in 1984 and completely changed urban transportation. It connects all of the city’s main areas and is a top form of travel. Millions of people commute quickly, efficiently, and sustainably every day thanks to the metro’s continuous expansions and contemporary improvements, which also help to reduce traffic.
All things considered, this ticketing improvement is a big stride in the Kolkata Metro’s modernisation. In addition to speeding up the process, the ability to purchase many tickets at once will also lessen the difficulties that many riders confront on their daily commutes.
