As a hardcore Bengali foodie, I can assuredly say nothing soothes our soul like gorom gorom phulko luchi (hot and fluffy luchi) and alur dom. However, we surely do not mind gorging on dalpuri and kochuri (kachori) at times. Kolkata is dotted with small local street food stalls serving kochuri, dalpuri, and nanpuri with savoury torkari (sabzi) for breakfast. We just discovered a local vendor in Kolkata who sells dalpuri to hundreds of customers every day. Surprised?

When In Kolkata’s Kalighat, Head To This Place To Savour Dalpuri

Video creator Abhishek Adhikari (@abhishekadhikari1985) shared a reel featuring this famous street food seller in Kalighat.

Imagine a single person handling a huge crowd of customers and selling food to hundreds of people daily; this is the story of many street food sellers around us. Like many viral street food vendors in Kolkata on social media platforms, this dalpuri seller may not have a strong presence on the Internet but he surely has humongous popularity in the locality.

Known for serving mouth-watering dalpuri with delicious alur dom and chaana, Sanjay Da has continued to sell these yummy dishes for many years. Nestled close to Kalighat church, two generations have been selling these tasty breakfast options for around 40 years. From morning hours to 1 PM, he sells 1500-1600 dalpuri each day and the sale numbers perfectly showcase foodies’ fondness for the lip-smacking breakfast choices at this shop.

Are you planning to indulge in a hearty breakfast from this small stall? Well, visit here with some extra time in hand as you will probably never find this place empty. Customers surround the dalpuri stall most of the time, waiting to purchase.

Sanjay Da charges just ₹5 for one dalpuri. To gorge on these stuffed puris, he serves Kosha Alur Dom, Chaana, Laccha Pyaaz, and spicy Green Chilli Chutney prepared with loads of spices. Though the seller sells thanda thanda (cold) dalpuri, the gastronomic blend of side dishes tastes finger-licking. Spicy food lovers enjoy biting on this special chilli chutney.
