Kolkata To Get Bullet Train Feels Without Being In One

Kolkata is all set to get an upgraded and modernised transportation network by next year in January.

What Is It?

The Kolkata Metro, one of the oldest running metros in India, is all set get a new avatar and a revamp by getting technologically advanced coaches from Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML).

What’s In It?

Kolkata’s East-West corridor is set to get revamped with technologically advanced coaches coming in from BEML, the Bengaluru-based body will supply 14 six-coach rakes to the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC).

The coaches will be made of aluminium and will be similar to the ones in bullet trains. BEML will also be looking forward to having 240 coaches by the end of 2022, BEML has tied up with Hitachi, Kawasaki and Mitsubishi.

The KMRC plans to launch the corridor by January 2019 connecting Sector V and Salt Lake Stadium.
