Kolkata, the city that celebrates food and culture, has a gem that has been unearthed moons ago, but has recently been re-polished (read: revamped) to be presented to patrons in all its sheen. I am talking about Capella which sits on the 20th (and 21st) floor of Kolkata’s boutique hotel Altair in Sector V in the Ambuja Neotia Eco Centre building.
Step into a world where you can see your priyo Kolkata from great heights. That, too, with a full 360-degree view. And, it looks like a dream. Capella has been around but has been recently revamped and given a facelift like no other.
Capella, A Skybar With Unmatched Views Of Kolkata
Touted as a skybar, the vibes at Capella are truly vibing and the decor is decoring. Allow me to explain. Divided across four sections, the place has something to offer to each and every kind of patron. Love the city views and want to have a rooftop dining experience with bae or friends? Head to the open-air section that offers an unmatched view of Sector V. Want to have chill scenes with a large group and make it a private affair? They have a section with great ambiance for that too. Want to admire Kolkata while sipping on some cool concoctions in the open air? Outdoor bar area with seating should be your go-to. You are a party animal who loves VDJ? The indoor section with almost soundproof glass is where you can let loose till wee hours. See, I told you, it has something for everyone.
Well, it is also a microbrewery. They craft their own beers and it is said to be one of the highest brewpubs in Kolkata. Sadly, I didn’t try any beers.

Food And Drinks At Capella, Atlair
Now coming to food and drinks. Oh, my, oh, my! Yes, the exaggerated delight is intentional on my part, because that is what my experience was on my last visit to the city in March. The evening was pleasant, it was legit a bit cloudy with a chance of rain! And towards the end, it did rain. Just a splatter, TBH. So my cousins and I made our way to the place around evening. After being shown around the whole place, understanding the concept, the renovation part, what each section denotes, and more informational exchange, we sat down to eat.
I chose to sit outside, soaking in the city view, trying to catch any breeze that came our way. And what began after that was a culinary journey complemented with exceptional cocktails, fun banter, and a lot of breaks in between because they left no stone unturned to bring out big food guns to make us try the menu delightfully curated by the Chef.

The spread was magnificent. I recommend their cocktails. Not only do they taste good, but they follow a zero-waste approach and all the cocktails at Capella are sustainable. Food-wise, well I had my picks. You would notice that the cuisine overlap is pretty evident. Not only in textures but also on the palate, These complement the cocktails. The dumplings and maki rolls are a must-try. The nachos, garlic bread go well with pretty much everything. And, the pizzas are quite yum and filling. Special mention to prawn skewers; they were good.
If gin is your poison, then definitely try The Taste of Bengal and The Perfumer. LIIT are potent and worth every sip. The Kala Pani Patiala was seriously very good. To get pure beach vibes, the Florodora’s Sky Mai Tai is a must, you will love the fruity vibes.
Why Should You Visit Capella?
Umm, open-air lounge vibes, sectional seating, live music, Sunday brunches, uh, need I say more? The only tip I have for you is to carry your Joey pants, that will help. JK! I suggest going in a big group to enjoy the ambiance to the fullest. But, I hear, it is quite a lover’s spot and the perfect place to pop the question.
In addition to being a full-fledged party place, the place has the magical power to be a quiet haunt to tuck into some hearty fare and exceptional drinks with your SO before the party hour sets in. Families shouldn’t feel left out. The brunches are for everyone to enjoy, so do keep checking Altair’s Instagram to keep track of the latest events and happenings.
My clique was brimming with joy and we were barely able to walk after the food-induced coma, but we had a great time. And, the drizzling sky and a perfect moonrise made the evening even more special. So, go plan!
