That’s exactly what Korean content creator Dong Hun Kim is up to after he asked on Instagram what Gujarati dish he should cook next. Korean Man Makes Dal Dhokli From Scratch
Content creator Dong Hun Kim and his Gujju girlfriend have made a special place in the hearts of Gujaratis. From imitating Hansa’s signature, “Main toh thak gayi bhaisaab” to dancing garba, Dong Hun Kim’s reels prove he is more Gujarati than even Gujaratis. And this time, the content creator showed his love for Dal Dhokli and prepared this dish step-by-step for his Insta fam!
“It’s like Indian pasta dough,” he says as he starts kneading the dough for the dhokli. Dal Dhokli is a soupy, comforting dish where a sweet-tangy dal is prepared and then neatly cut pieces of chapati dough are added to the dal and cooked together. It’s like a hug in a bowl on a cool night. An easy-to-prepare dish that feels amazing to devour if you are under the weather. As a massive Dal Dhokli fan myself, I can’t wait to make this dish after watching Dong Hun Kim’s reel.
After preparing the dough for the dhokli, the Korean man next starts cooking Gujarati dal. For this, he adds oil, and then starts adding spices like thing, mustard seeds, jeera, red chillies and cinnamon which he takes out of his masala box. “Tametu re tametu,” Dong Hun Kim sings the popular children’s Gujju song as he adds chopped tomatoes to his dish.

Then, he adds some more spices like turmeric and finally pours the cooked dal into the vessel with tempering. The Korean man rolls the dhokli dough and cuts it into small diamond-shaped pieces. The Gujarati dish is garnished with freshly chopped coriander. “That is amazing,” exclaims Dong Hun Kim as he slurps the piping hot bowl of Dal Dhokli.

Netizens are very impressed by his “masala no dabbo”, Gujarati speaking skills and cooking skills. Many expressed their love for the iconic dish with, “Maaru favourite che”. Others wanted to know when he would be flying down to the “thepla capital of the world”. A woman exclaimed that marrying into a Gujarati family was the best decision of her life as she could eat this dish whenever she wanted.
