It is no secret that Kerala is one of the most beautiful Indian states. Naturally, many people want to explore its beauty and travel in this state. The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation or KSRTC has a budget tourism cell for those who want to explore the state but don’t want to break their banks doing it. The cell has recently reported that it generated a lot of revenue and was quite successful.
KSRTC Budget Tourism Generated ₹29 Crore In Revenue
According to an article which was recently published by Mathrubhumi English, this budget tourism cell was made in November 2021. Between November 2021 and October 2023, it generated a whopping ₹29 crores in revenue.
What is more, the budget tourism cell in Kannur generated the highest revenue. Since services began in February 2022, it reported a total revenue of ₹2.53 crores till October 2023. As per officials cited in the Mathrubhumi English article, long-distance journeys are majorly responsible for the high revenue generation.
K J Roy, K R Thanseer, P Girish Kumar and V Manoj Kumar head the Kannur unit of the Budget Tourism cell of the KSRTC. There are a total of 50 units under the KSRTC as of now. Given the increasing revenue, KSRTC may increase the number of units and expand its network.
Nine Thousand Trips With More Than Five Lakh People Made
The article also mentioned that since its inception, more than 9000 trips have been recorded by the cell. These trips carried more than five lakh tourists to different parts of Kerala.
The Pathanamthitta unit recorded the second-highest revenue after Kannur. It generated a total of ₹2.17 crores. Palakkad, which came in third, recorded ₹2.14 crores in revenue.
