Viral Video: 3 Snow Leopards Spotted Walking Beside Each Other In The Himalayas

Known as the ‘ghosts of the mountains,’ snow leopards are big cats that often call rocky mountain ranges their home. You have to be extremely lucky to spot one in the wild, as they are known for their incredible camouflage. But you would be stunned to know that just recently, a family of snow leopards was spotted in the Himalayas. The video of them walking in the snow has gone viral. Wildlife lovers, you definitely need to see it.

Snow Leopards Spotted In Ladakh

Border Roads Organisation (@BRO) recently uploaded a video on its official X account. The clip showed three beautiful snow leopards walking beside each other on the snowy peaks of Ladakh. Officials wrote, “Spotting of the elusive Snow Leopard in the High Himalayas by Project Himank@BROindia—a powerful reminder that infrastructure development and nature conservation go hand in hand.”

These snow leopards are not easily seen, which is why they are called the ‘ghosts of the mountains.’ They can perfectly camouflage within snow and rocky terrain, making them extremely difficult to spot. This is why people are calling the video of three snow leopards together extremely rare. These big cats are also considered highly elusive. They are not comfortable around people and usually keep to themselves and their families.

A Rare Sighting Of These Elusive Big Cats

According to a report by India Today, the Border Roads Organisation has constructed over 60,000 kilometres of roads across India. The authority integrates wildlife corridors with its road projects. It uses eco-friendly practices to prevent habitat disruption for wild animals.

Furthermore, snow leopards, classified as vulnerable by the IUCN, often thrive in Ladakh’s Hemis National Park and surrounding areas. The sighting of these three snow leopards suggests that the region has a healthy population of these big cats, which is great news!

Many netizens expressed joy over the sighting. One wrote, “Incredible sighting.” Another X user said,” Thrice as lucky. Amazing. Thank you for sharing.” One called it a “rare sighting,” while others described the leopards as “cute and magnificent.”
