One such institution is situated 2,200 meters above sea level in Munsiyari, Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district. It is the Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute (PNSMTI). After the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi, the Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute (PNSMTI) is Uttarakhand’s second-best mountaineering school and one of the best places to learn to ski in India. The institute bears the name of Pandit Nain Singh Rawat, a renowned surveyor who was instrumental in the mid-nineteenth-century Great Trigonometrical Survey (GTS).

A Basic Ski Course will be offered by this institution this February. The cost of the course includes equipment, training, food, and boarding. It is perfect for both beginners and those looking to enhance their skiing abilities in the high-altitude Himalayan landscape. The training will be led by Reena Kaushal Dharmshaktu, the first Indian woman to ski from the Antarctic coast to the South Pole.

Who Is Reena Kaushal Dharamshaktu?

At Uttarakhand’s first state-run adventure institute, Reena Kaushal Dharamshaktu is the institute’s sole administrator and course creator. She is the first Indian woman to ski 900 kilometres in 38 days from the Antarctic shore to the South Pole. In Uttarakhand, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim, she has scaled a number of difficult Himalayan peaks. These include Gangotri-1, the first ascent of Argan Kangri, Sri Kailash, and Phalut.
