800-Member Gujarati Group Cancels Turkey Trip
According to the Hindustan Times, around 800 members of a Jain Lotus Group in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, have cancelled their trip to Turkey. The group was scheduled for a 12-day and 11-night vacation after Diwali. However, citing Turkey’s recent show of support for Pakistan and growing diplomatic issues with India, the group decided to cancel their plans.
The Ahmedabad-based Jain Lotus Group has over 1,000 couples as its members and had planned to visit Turkey after Diwali. They had decided to cover four places in the country, including Cappadocia and Istanbul.
However, considering the current diplomatic tensions between Turkey and India, the group decided to cancel the trip on “moral grounds”. While talking to the media, the organisation’s treasurer shared that they took individual opinions and the committee decided to cancel the trip. He said that this was the “least that they could do for India” and to show support for the country.
MakeMyTrip Suspends Promotion Of These Nations
Gujarat’s Jain Lotus Group is among the many Indian travellers who are cancelling their trips to Turkey and Azerbaijan. In a move to express solidarity, MakeMyTrip discontinued all offers and promotions for these countries. In fact, the platform is now advising travellers to avoid non-essential trips to these destinations, keeping in mind public sentiment and national interest.
Sharing some interesting data, MakeMyTrip also revealed a sharp 60% drop in bookings and a 250% increase in cancellations for Turkey and Azerbaijan in the last week. Experts believe that these numbers highlight how Indian travellers are reacting to the current situation.
