In our latest episode of Sunday Brunch, our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, met with the couple to learn all about their love story, their passion for acting, movies, food, travel, and much more. However, the highlight of this episode was certainly the authentic Manipuri feast we indulged in. Read on to learn all about it.

Lin Laishram Shared All About The Special Forbidden Rice

This episode of Sunday Brunch wasn’t just about getting to know the couple and their married life but also about getting a deeper look into Lin’s heritage through food. Her chef at home prepared a delicious meal and we indulged in many local delicacies from Manipur. The best was certainly saved for last: a dessert called Chak-Hao Kheer, also known as forbidden rice or purple rice.

Lin Laishram not only told us about the speciality of this dessert but also revealed how we can make it at home. Lin explained that this purple rice is called ‘forbidden’ because it used to be expensive and only meant to be eaten by the royal family. This rice is naturally blackish-purple in colour, and when cooked into a kheer, it turns out naturally purple, with no added colours.

As for the recipe of this beautiful and delicious kheer, Lin shared that it is cooked how any traditional kheer is made. However, half an hour before turning off the heat, she adds 250-300 mL of fresh coconut milk and sprinkles some grated fresh coconut on top before serving. It adds an exotic flavour and a creamy texture to the kheer, making it extra special.

Randeep And Lin’s Traditional Wedding

During this episode, we also talked in detail about their traditional wedding ceremony in Manipur. Randeep Hooda shared his experience of getting married in such a cultural setting, calling it a significant moment in his life. He deeply appreciated the traditions followed by his wife’s family.

He revealed that there were many customs involved in the ceremony, including one where he wasn’t even allowed to get ready by himself; someone else dressed him up for the wedding. Another unique aspect of this wedding was that, unlike most ceremonies where couples take pheras around a sacred fire, only Lin took pheras around a Tulsi plant.
