Staying inside a Mughal Palace can surely be an expensive affair. But there is a Mughal-style bungalow in Pondicherry which is an architectural masterpiece and offers stays at prices starting at just around ₹1216 per night ( price varies according to dates). The design of the marvellous bungalow is inspired by Mughal art and imperial living. It features a majestic Durbar hall with embellished turquoise pillars, ornamentation works on walls and intricate traditional motifs. The floorings too have rectangular central tilework inspired by Indo-Islamic style carpets.
The Durbar Hall Features Swords, Sheilds And Jaali Works
Just like a prominent fort of ancient India, OYO Home 78302 also has an interesting story behind it. Mr Kanagavel, who built the bungalow, travelled to diverse places across India and took ideas from forts like the Taj Mahal and other historic monuments to construct the royal house. Reportedly, he has also won a President Award from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam for his magnificent design. A simple walk through the Durbar hall will leave any guest utterly captivated. The hall has doors and walls with installed swords and shields and there are regal stairs rotating up to the next storey. The stairs are unique with intriguing jaali works. A tour through the house allows guests to witness gorgeous murals and paintings depicting kings, queens and royal life.
Striking Chandeliers, The Throne Chamber And A Backyard Pool
There is a stunning yellow Buddha statue too inside the house, illuminated by an artistic lamp installed right above it. The striking lamps and chandeliers amp up the elegance of the place. At the bungalow, the place that houses the throne is adorned with golden pillars, coordinated by arcs, that lead to a circular ceiling beautified by several pictures of the Taj Mahal. The bungalow also features a backyard pool.
Luxurious Canopy Beds With Attached Mirrors
The exterior of the house has the prominence of red, with greens and whites in the windows and onion domes. Inside some of the rooms, there are canopy beds with attached mirrors and paintings. The air-conditioned rooms have doors that depict floral parchin kari motifs. The rooms are equipped with wooden dressing tables, chairs and televisions too. This OYO house is a modern-day hotel that embraces the grandeur of old-world India at its best.
