Paris-based home-swapping network HomeExchange announced its launch in India recently. One of the most trusted home-sharing networks in the world, HomeExchange allows travellers a groundbreaking way to explore destinations authentically, affordably, and sustainably.

So, how does home swapping work? Well, travellers become members of HomeExchange, pay a membership fee, and travel the world without paying for accommodation. After paying the membership fee, there is no financial transaction between host and guest and they have access to homes in 155 countries!

According to the press release, HomeExchange has launched a localised campaign in India that aims to introduce people to a unique way of travelling. With this campaign, they will highlight the unique travel experiences and cultural exchange opportunities that Home Exchange offers and provide them with an alternative to traditional travel methods.

HomeExchange will establish its strategic hub in Delhi-NCR to oversee local operations and sustainability-focused organisations. Their goal is to integrate 3,000 to 5,000 Indian homes into the global network within the first year, focusing on major metro cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Delhi NCR, as well as popular tourist destinations such as Goa, Jaipur, and Shimla.

Addressing the ever-rising cost of travel, HomeExchange offers an affordable solution. For just ₹7,500 annually, their members can stay in homes across the world for up to 5-7 nights without needing to host first. This is HomeExchange’s lowest membership cost worldwide. The more members host, the more they can travel—making it an ideal solution for value-conscious travellers, frequent travellers, and families seeking unforgettable experiences without the hefty price tag. This comes at a time when hotel prices in major international destinations increased by 20-30% over the past year.

Here’s how HomeExchange works –

1. Create a profile on the HomeExchange website or app and list your home/ apartment with all the necessary details and photos.
2. After, you can browse and search for other homes in destinations you’d like to visit.
3. Once you find a home you’re interested in, you can reach out to the owner through the platform. This exchange can be direct or non-simultaneous.
4. After agreeing on the dates and details, both parties confirm the exchange. It is to be noted that some exchanges may involve payment for additional services.
5. Stay in each other’s homes.
6. Earn and use points by hosting guests.
