London’s 200-Year-Old Pub The Ship Is Back After Being “Permanently Shut” For Over 5 Months

The Ship in Borough, London, is not just another pub but a heritage site in the city. With 200 years of rich history, The Ship had been on a smooth sail until January 2023, when it permanently shut shop. South Londoners were devastated that their favourite pub AKA their adda had shut down for good. But never say never right? After 5 months, The Ship surprisingly announced that it will reopen by the end of May. Talk about resurrections!

This 200-Year-Old Pub Shut Down In Jan 2023 Due To Rental Issues

An article by TimeOut relayed the good, no great news, to Londoners that their favourite pub, The Ship will reopen by the end of May. In January 2023, the 200-year-old pub unexpectedly shut down permanently citing the rent had become exorbitantly high for the tenants who ran the pub. The watering hole ran music and beer festivals and also hosted live sports events.

People were aghast and many took to social media to protest its closure. People even commented on social media posts that they’d celebrate their wedding reception there and they were upset with its closure. Perhaps the love from Londoners stopped this “Shipwreck” and resurrected the age-old pub back to its former glory.
