The fires in Los Angeles have brought at least 12,000 structures to the ground although not all of them were residential. At least 426 homes have been confirmed ravaged in the largest fire the region has ever seen. Unleashing toxic smoke in the air, the fire has been declared a public health emergency by the Los Angeles County. Residents have been advised to avoid stepping outdoors and use air filtration systems.
To locate victims, search teams have deployed cadaver dogs to sniff the rubble and locate victims. The death count stands at 16 but authorities fear it may rise. Apart from Canada, Mexico has also joined the rescue and firefighting work.
