Los Angeles wildfire

Multiple devastating wildfires have broken out across Los Angeles County, claiming five lives and forcing tens of thousands to evacuate. The most significant blazes include the Palisades Fire, which has consumed 15,832 acres in the affluent Pacific Palisades neighbourhood, and the Eaton Fire in the Altadena area, which has grown to 10,600 acres. Both fires remain completely uncontained. Here are all of the other latest details that you would need to know about the LA Fire.

Los Angeles Wildfire: 5 Dead, Thousands Evacuated

A fresh blaze erupted in the Hollywood Hills on Wednesday evening, dubbed the Sunset Fire, rapidly spreading across 50 acres and triggering mandatory evacuations between the 101 Motorway and Laurel Canyon. The affected area extends from Mulholland Drive to Hollywood Boulevard, with additional evacuation warnings covering parts of Sunset Boulevard.

The crisis has been exacerbated by extreme Santa Ana winds, with gusts reaching up to 99 kmph near Altadena. Nearly one million residents have lost power, and the regionā€™s main electricity providerā€™s management system has gone offline. President Joe Biden has approved a Major Disaster Declaration for California, enabling federal funding for affected residents.

The fires have disrupted daily life significantly, forcing numerous school closures and the postponement of entertainment industry events, including the Critics Choice Awards. Universal Studios Hollywood has temporarily closed, and several television productions have halted.

Paris Hilton, Mark Hamill And Other Celebrities Impacted

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass announced that police are being deployed to manage evacuation traffic, whilst fire department air operations have resumed following a suspension due to high winds. The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning until Friday evening, citing dangerous conditions of warm temperatures, strong winds and low humidity.

The severe fire conditions have been attributed to prolonged drought in the region, with Los Angeles not recording significant rainfall since May, combined with La NiƱa weather patterns contributing to the unusually dry conditions.

A number of celebrities, including Mandy Moore, Paris Hilton and Mark Hamill, were impacted by the fires. See celebrity reactions below: ā€“
