Madinah Buses have been launched in March 2024. As a result, it was an instant hit amongst the people who visited the holy city. Launched with 200 buses, it was done with the aim of transporting visitors to the Quba Mosque – the Prophet’s (PBUH) Mosque and even other destinations in Madinah. As it happens, now the plans are to expand the Madinah Bus services and we are here to tell you all about it.

Madinah Bus Services To Be Enhanced

There are now plans to expand the Madinah Bus Services by establishing up to 500 stations. This will lead to transportation coverage of about 80% to 90% by 2030. As revealed by Madinah’s Regional Development Authority, seven routes for shuttle buses were introduced for transporting people to and from the mosque during Ramadan 2024. The stations included Quba Mosque are the Sports Stadium, AlKhaldiha Neighbourhood, Sayed Alshuhda’, Durrat Al-Madinah, the Islamic University, and Bani Harithah stations.

Plans To Establish 500 New Stations

So, now there are plans to expand these buses to 500 stations with the aim of enhancing the public transportation system in the holy city. Not to mention, the aim is also to reduce the traffic congestion in the city and create a pedestrian-friendly area near the prophets mosque. It’s worth mentioning that this new expansion has been backed by a joint venture between Systra and Egis.

The Egis-led JV with Systra will implement vital services, which include the BRT, priority buses, and even feeder services. Not to mention, this also includes services like engineering supervision and overnight design, testing, operation, and construction. Furthermore, the companies will also handle the safety and security management of systems. So, this includes buses, operational systems, civil works, and depots.

Once these services become functional, it’s bound to make travelling in Madinah a lot easier.
