Maha Kumbh 2025: Fire Breaks Out At Kalpvasis Camp On Saturday Evening; Household Goods & Cash Burnt To Ashes

As India celebrates the world’s largest human gathering, the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, concerning cases of conflagration have left devotees concerned. A day after the tragic stampede claiming 30 lives, a fire broke out near Nageshwar Ghat and Jhunsi Chhatnag Ghat which gutted several tents in the Maha Kumbh Mela. On late Saturday evening, another fire broke out in the camp of Kalpvasis in Sector 18.

As per a report by ABP News, two tents in the camp of Kalpvasis were burnt to ashes after a fire broke out in the area. The blaze started in Sector 18’s Ramakrishna Ashram Camp in Dandi Swami Nagar. Goods kept in the tents were turned to ashes. Apart from household goods, cash worth ₹80,000 were also gutted in the fire.

The conflagration happened due to glass leakage while a person was making tea on cooking gas. Fortunately, no casualties were reported due to the blaze. However, one devotee suffered minor burns. People residing in nearby camps rushed to the spot to contain the fire at Maha Kumbh. They were swiftly able to act on time and control the fire. By placing a bucket on the burning cylinder, the fire was controlled. But by then the household items and cash worth ₹80,000 in the tents were brought down to ashes. The tents were occupied by nine devotees, who were evacuated on time.

Another Fire Broke Out In Sector 17 On Same Day

The report by ABP News further informs that all devotees were evacuated safely. To douse the fire, 10 fire brigade vehicles rushed to the spot on time. As a precautionary measure, authorities sent four ambulances as well. But another fire broke out on Saturday night in Sector 17 of Maha Kumbh Mela. Chaos ensued in the high-tension fuse. Within an hour, two fire incidents were reported. But the fire at Sector 17 was quickly extinguished.

The Maha Kumbh Mela ends on February 26, during Maha Shivratri. We hope with the new rules in place, fire incidents and stampedes will be prevented.
