A day after the stampede incident in Maha Kumbh, the Uttar Pradesh government has introduced strict measures to enhance security and ensure better crowd management. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has given special directions to the Kumbh Mela administration in Prayagraj as well. Scroll on to know more about these measures.
Key Measures Introduced By UP Govt To Monitor Crowd
According to Moneycontrol, during a special meeting, Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath and the Maha Kumbh administration decided to declare the entire mela area a no-vehicle zone. They also announced several other measures that have been implemented with immediate effect and are expected to remain in place until February 4.
Here are all the key changes announced by the UP Government –
1. The Maha Kumbh Mela area has been declared a complete ‘No-Vehicle Zone’. Only two-wheelers, ambulances, municipal bodies, and fire department vehicles will be allowed inside the mela grounds.
2. All VVIP passes have been cancelled. Also, all VVIP bath and escort vehicles have been banned.
3. Bath routes will now be one-way at the Maha Kumbh Mela. This system will help people avoid clashing with those returning from the bath.
4. The Kumbh Mela administration will also monitor all train and bus operations as well.
5. The administrative workforce and security at the Maha Kumbh area have also been increased to ensure the safety of the pilgrims.
Maha Kumbh Stampede Claimed 30 Lives
On January 29, millions of pilgrims tried to reach the Sangam Area in Prayagraj for a sacred dip on Mauni Amavasya. The day is considered one of the most auspicious days of the Kumbh Mela and pilgrims from all over India and the world were there for a ‘Shahi Snan’. However, devotees started pushing against barricades in an attempt to reach the holy waters and this resulted in a fatal stampede that claimed 30 lives. More than 60 people were injured and were rushed to the nearest hospital for medical assistance.
