Mahakumbh is one of the biggest peaceful gatherings that the world witnessed. When such a huge crowd gathers in one place, it also invites a lot of other environmental problems like littering. However, officials have launched an initiative to make the Mahakumbh Mela of 2025 more eco-friendly than before. Plastic-free bag vending machines have been installed at various places in Prayagraj (formerly known as Allahabad) in order to curb the use of plastic bags and reduce environmental deterioration.

According to an article which was recently published by the Hindustan Times or the HT, as many as eight vending machines will be installed as part of this initiative. These vending machines will also be coin-operated. By inserting a ₹10 coin, you can get a plastic-free cloth bag.

You can also use the machines via online payments if reports are to go by. What is more, they will be placed in strategic locations like markets and fairgrounds in the hopes that it will motivate more people to use cloth bags instead of plastic ones.

It is part of the larger effort to diminish the use of plastic bags in the region. The funding for the machines has been done by CSR or Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.
