Maharashtra: 50 Students Hospitalised After Eating Dinner At Hostel In Latur; Food Samples Collected For Probe

Around 50 female students of government college in Latur, Maharashtra were hospitalised for suspected food poisoning. Reportedly, the students felt nauseous and began vomiting after eating dinner at their hostel. They were immediately taken to the hospital in ambulances. The authorities have collected food samples to know more about the incident.

At around 7 PM on Saturday, female students of a government college in Latur, Maharashtra had dinner at their hostel. As per The Indian Express report, the dinner consisted of rice, chapattis, okra curry and lentil soup. However, by 8:30 PM, several students felt nauseous and some even started vomiting. The affected students, nearly 50 of them, were rushed to the nearby hospital where they were admitted for suspected food poisoning.

The hostel is a part of the Puranmal Lahoti Government Polytechnic. Around 324 female students study and stay here for their education. As per the latest update by the college’s dean, Dr Uday Mohite, 20 students were released from the hospital at around 3 AM on Sunday.

Reportedly, 30 students are currently undergoing treatment at the hospital and none of them are in critical condition. The students were immediately provided treatment and are now under medical observation.

What The Authorities Have To Say About This Incident

After 50 college students were hospitalised in Latur, the Shivajinagar Police were informed about the incident. The police, reportedly, arrived at the scene to investigate the entire matter. They even involved the concerned authorities and collected the food samples for further investigation. The sample will help them determine the cause of food poisoning in the students.

The college authorities have also reassured the parents of the students that they will launch an investigation and ensure no such incident happens in the future. For now, they have assured the parents that all students are safe and under the supervision of medical experts.
