Maharashtra: ₹9,500 Cr Elevated Pune-Shirur Road To Connect To Samruddhi Expressway; Will Help Reduce Traffic Congestion

To enhance the road connectivity and infrastructure of Maharashtra, the state government has now decided to link the 53 km elevated Pune-Shirur Road with the Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Expressway. This proposed expressway will begin from the Pune Bypass at Kesnand and Lonikand. It will cross Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and connect to the Samruddhi Expressway. 53-Km Elevated Pune-Shirur Road To Connect To Samruddhi Expressway

The Maharashtra government has given a nod of approval to connect the six-lane Pune to Shirur Road to the Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Expressway via Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. As per a Swarajya report, The expressway will form a crucial link that will boost connectivity across key regions.

The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) will work together with the Public Works Department (PWD) to oversee this project. Reportedly, the estimated cost of this project is around ₹9,565 crore. Of this, ₹7,515 crore will be allotted for the Pune-Shirur Road and ₹2,050 crore for upgrading the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Road via the Ahmednagar Bypass.

The expressway will have six levels and span approximately 250 km. There will be multiple entry and exit points on this road as well. Commuters from cities like Shirur, Ahmednagar, Nevasa, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will be able to connect to this new expressway.

To Help Reduce Traffic Congestion & Travel Time

This new expressway connecting Pune-Shirur Road to Samruddhi Expressway will provide seamless connectivity to the commuters. It will also reduce traffic congestion on the existing road networks, facilitate smoother travel, and add to the economic growth of the region. It will also reduce travel time between Wagholi and Pune.

Furthermore, this elevated road will significantly reduce traffic issues in Yerawada, Kharadi, Wagholi, Lonikand, Shikrapur and Shirur areas. As per PWD notification, the project will be executed in six stages. The work on the connecting expressway will commence within two years.
