Take a road trip along the South African coast and experience life on the extreme! Here are some of the insane thrills to try on the Garden route, a mecca for adventure junkies.
1. Bungee Jump At Bloukrans Bridge
Time to take a leap of faith! At 216 meters above Bloukrans River, your life literally hangs by a thread, as you jump from the highest bridge bungee in the world. Bloukrans Bridge is located close to Natures Valley right at the start of the Garden Route. Face Adrenaline is the only company that operates the Bungee here and you can book online at faceadrenalin.com. Each jump costs ZAR 950 (approx INR 4600 ) which is a very small cost as compared to what you pay in New Zealand or anywhere in Europe.
2. Dive With Sharks At Mossel Bay
This is the opposite of a zoo. You are in the cage and the Great White Sharks freely move around you in their natural environment. Dive in for an experience that’ll send chills down your spine at the Seal Island near Mossel Bay. A hunting spot for sharks, here you are bound to encounter their true wild side. And the sharks will be only centimeters away from you. Good luck not peeing your pants. Some of the better known tours are organised by ‘White Shark Africa’ in Mossel Bay. This hell of an adventure will set you back by ZAR 1600 (INR 7730).
3. Kloofing At The Crags
This intense adventure sport is designed for thrill-seeking, water babies. Climb through boulders, swim in pools, and abseil down waterfalls as you follow a river running through canyon. Best experienced in the deep gorges at The Crags in Plettenberg Bay, a Full Monty 4 hour Kloofing experience also includes a zip-lining adventure. If you have the physical fitness for it (I know I don’t!), these will be the most fun 4 hours of your life. Africanyon is an award-winning company offering this experience which you can easily book online for ZAR 750 (INR 3650).
4. Snorkeling With Sea horses At Knysna
If you are on the Garden Route, you cannot miss coming face to face with the endangered Knysna Sea Horse. The breathtaking coastal town of Knysna, sandwiched between George and Plettenberg Bay, is home to a large warm-water estuary. Take a dip in the Knysna Lagoon with an experienced diver to explore under-water gardens and meet these knights with the shining fins. Seablue Scuba Safaris organizes these excursions in Knysna.
5. Blackwater Tubing On Storms River
Not so high on the adrenaline quotient, this adventure tops the list for its sheer beauty value. Nature loving enthusiasts can enjoy tubing expeditions on the beautiful waters of Storms River, Tsitsikamma National Park. Soak in views of dense forests along the river banks, rare birds hovering around as You Tube in a whole new adventurous way. Tube’n’Axe offers day long for ZAR 995 (INR 4807) and half day for ZAR 595 (INR 2875) tubing on this heavenly stretch.
