This Sunday, Curly Tales was invited to Malaika Arora’s new restaurant in Mumbai, The Scarlett House, for a scrumptious Sunday Brunch. Our Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani sat down and talked to the beautiful diva about her new restaurant, the food, her Bollywood journey, and of course, their Chembur connection! During the fun chat, Malaika revealed that her mother would often get calls from her college because of her low attendance and how she handled it.
Malaika Arora Shares Why Her Mother Used To Get Calls From Her College
We know Malaika Arora as a gorgeous diva, an amazing dancer, a judge, and now a restaurateur. But back in her college days, she was just a normal girl with low college attendance! During the recent episode of Sunday Brunch, Malaika and Kamiya found a common link–Chembur! They both grew up in the same area and actually went to the same school, Swami Vivekanand School. This discovery sent them down memory lane and they discussed their school and college life.
While talking about her college life at Jai Hind College, Mumbai, she mentioned that she had started getting shows and advertisements during that time. Due to this, she would often miss classes and this led to low attendance. Her attendance was so low that the college authorities even called up her mother!
After this, Malaika Arora told her mother that she just wanted to work and not pursue her studies further. Her mother asked her if she was sure about this decision. To this Malaika said, “I told her, yes, I want to be independent. That’s it. She was like if you know what you’re doing, then I trust you and that was that. I started working and have never looked back after that.”
Revisiting Malaika’s Iconic Songs & Dancing On Top Of Train Experience
Now, there is no way you have Malaika Arora in the house and not talk about her iconic songs like Gur Naal Ishq Mitha and Chaiyya Chaiyya. Even Malaika feels that any Indian function is incomplete without these two songs, and we couldn’t agree more! From the hand step and red heels in Gur Naal to her stunning dance in Chaiyya Chaiyya, she became a household name with these songs!
We asked her about her experience of dancing on top of the train and she said that the crew initially tied her leg for safety purposes. However, she felt that the harness was hampering her dance and she asked the crew to take it off. She said she was fine after a while and got used to the moving train. And the rest, as they say, is history!
