Born in Kerala but raised in Mumbai, Malavika Mohanan embodies the perfect blend of two worlds—Bollywood and the South film industry! Born to cinematographer K. U. Mohanan, Malavika was exposed to films, literature, and books from a young age.

So, how did she get into the film industry? “More than me finding films, films found me!” she explains. Remembering how she got her first film, she says she bagged her first film “very unexpectedly”. She said it wasn’t something she “went auditioning for, or looking for.” In fact, for her first movie, Pattam Pole, she was cast unexpectedly by none other than superstar Mammootty. Reportedly, he saw her somewhere and thought she would fit the role opposite Dulquer Salmaan perfectly!

She had a similar experience with actor Aamir Khan. Malavika remembers while shooting for his film Talaash, he saw her from across the road and called her. She was probably 19 back then and just looking at her, the Bollywood superstar told her that she should become an actor! Imagine hearing that from one of the biggest actors in the country.

Malavika Mohanan believes that while Mumbai offers a lot of cuisines, it is hard to find a nice restaurant offering good Malayali food. So, she decided to treat us to a massive Malayali feast during the recent episode of Sunday Brunch. We enjoyed some Meen Curry, which is a traditional fish curry, some Nadan Kozhi Curry, authentic Kerala chicken curry, Fish Fry, Kerala Brown Rice, Appam & Puri, Raita and, and of course, Sambar.
