Ryanair Flight From Tirana Diverted To London Stansted Airport
On November 10, a passenger passed away mid-air on a Ryanair flight while travelling from Tirana, Albania to Manchester, UK. According to NDTV, the flight had crossed Switzerland and France and was diverted to London Stansted Airport at 8 PM (local time) on Sunday. The identity of the passenger hasn’t been revealed yet.
As per eyewitnesses, the passenger began “having convulsions” while he was onboard. When fellow passengers saw him struggling, they called the crew members who moved him to the aisle and administered CPR in a bid to save his life.
An eyewitness told Manchester Evening News that the man “stopped breathing and everything went into chaos” while the flight was still in the air. Few passengers with first aid training tried to help start CPR while the defibrillator was set. Reportedly, two aircrew members and three passengers managed to perform CPR, as instructed by the defibrillator, for 25 minutes before the flight finally landed in London.
Despite Best Efforts, Passenger Could Not Survive
As per East of England Ambulance Service’s spokesperson, one ambulance, one Hazardous Area Response Team vehicle, one paramedic car and Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were called to Stansted Airport on Sunday evening to attend the passenger on the Ryanair flight. The paramedics took over at the runway and continued trying to save the man’s life. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead soon after.
The Ryanair flight continued the trip to Manchester shortly after with a new aircrew.
The airline has yet to comment on this incident.
