Meet Sohan Rai (@zikiguy), a Mangalore-based tech content creator who loves technology and using it to make innovative apps. This time around, he built an app called Drizzle, which is an umbrella rental platform. Understanding how people often need umbrellas, thanks to sudden rains and overbearing sunlight, he made a rental platform where they can pick the umbrella from one location and drop it at another. The best bit? These umbrellas can be rented for free for 24 hours.

These umbrellas can be rented from a kiosk and have a tag on them that helps the team know when and from where the umbrella has been picked. All you have to do is scan the QR code on the kiosk and you will get the umbrella. Then, once you place the umbrella back at another location, you will get the amount you have to pay for renting the umbrella, in case you exceed the 24-hour limit.

Now, if you’re wondering how they make money out of this app, then the answer is brand ads! The plain umbrellas have brand names printed on them and act as walking billboards for the brands. Also, if you’re wondering what happens when people don’t return the umbrellas, then fret not, this app takes a security deposit of ₹400 to secure any theft and damage of the umbrella.
