Mangoes are regarded as the king of fruits. Available in abundance during summer, people love this fruit for its sweet and tangy flavours. With there being hundreds of varieties of this route, it’s certainly perfect for people with varying tastebuds. And if you are someone who lives in the UAE, then you will be pleased to know that there are mango festivals coming to the emirate. Well, for those who are wondering, these festivals are happening in Oud Medha and Khorfakkan.
Mango Festivals Making Their Way To UAE
Several varieties of mangoes have already arrived from India, Yemen, and Pakistan. As a result, the price of this loved fruit ranges from AED4 per kilogram to AED624 for two Miyazaki mangoes of 800 gm. And as more varieties of this king of fruits are expected to land in the country, there is a special mango festival that’s making its way to Oud Medha. Yes, Connecting Hearts – Mangolicious Way is making its way to the premises of the Pakistan Association of Dubai this July. Complete with a variety of activities, these are bound to keep visitors entertained and engaged.
According to a report by the Khaleej Times, it was mentioned that the first day of the activity is invite-only and the second day is open to the general public. At this festival, visitors will be able to taste their way, through a variety of mangoes from Pakistan and watch chefs whip up delicious treats made from this fruit. So, as they learn to incorporate mangoes in different ways in their food, they can also go ahead and shop and participate in giveaways. In fact, there will also be several games, competitions, and magic shows that will leave people of all ages entertained.
Mangoes From Yemem, Pakistan & India Flood The Market
There is another mango festival that’s coming to the UAE. Happening at the Expo Khorfakkan, the 3rd Annual Mango Festival 2024 will be hitting the town, from June 28 to 30. This festival will feature a wide range of local mango varieties and will also be hosting several competitions with exciting prices. Divided into three main categories, these are a mango mazayna, which is a beauty contest, the most beautiful mango basket which is just for women, and the best artwork contest for children.
What Do These Competitions Include?
Elaborating more on these competitions, there are specific conditions for participating in mango mazayna. These participants must offer mangoes of the season that have been produced on their own farm or home garden. During registration, they will have to present the required ownership documents for their house or the agricultural land. And every participant can submit only one mango in the competition. The winning farms and homes will be evaluated by the jury and inspected. At this point, it should be noted that the winning mangoes must be free of injuries and visible defects and should be of an appropriate size, presented in a carton box, the weight of the mangoes entered must be 4 kg.
For the second competition, the women aged 18 and older are eligible to participate with one basket only. These should include mangoes that have been locally produced this year. And they must be presented in a handmade basket. These baskets must be handcrafted by the participant and it should not weigh more than 4 kgs.
In the final competition, participants must be between 8 and 12 years of age and entry into the competition requires the submission of the Emirates ID. These artworks must be themed on mangoes. These can be models, paintings, or any other form of creative work wherein each child is allowed only one submission.
Finally, recite these festivals, there is another festival that’s currently happening at the President Hotel in Dubai. Taking place till mid-July, this festival has a special mango menu at two of its outlets. In fact, they start at AED24 and include options, like Tangy Mango Scallion Soup and Tropical Mango Rice.
